Fast Food Nation by idealterna
Last night we felt like slacking off in front of a movie so we watched a flick called Fast Food Nation on pay-per-view. I already knew that this was fictional story based on a non-fiction book about fast food in the United States so I went in knowing that it wasn’t going to be all beer and skittles.
As it happens there was no beer and no skittles at all and precious little story of any description. Instead it is a presentation of loosely connected vignettes showing the various connected and inter-connected evils that flow from a simple hamburger patty.
While it was without doubt worthy and dealing with serious issues as a film to watch I found it entirely plodding and depressing. At some point I realised that they were heading us for extended footage of the killing floor at the meat-works and, even though I went through this section on fast forward, I found it really disturbing.
I can see the value in the movie but I am somewhat sorry I watched it.
Lesson for the day - it’s one things to know about horrible situations and another to wallow in them.
