Doctor reckons James has not a chance of a food allergy or even intolerance and that there’s no evidence linking activity levels to gluten etc. However she didn’t at all make me feel like a “crazy mom” and said lots of kids do get a real energy hit from food. He should definitely have a protein and carb at every meal to balance it out. As such she thinks the diet he’s on is almost as good as it gets for Very Active Boys and we should definitely stick with it.
She also suggested that Kinder/Creche teachers don’t usually mention things willy-nilly so it is worth taking what was said seriously. With this in mind we have also made “no TV” the default setting. “Good food and minimal TV” seems to be the popular remedy for Very Active Boys so we’ll run with that.
The big round of Christmas Events this week was going to include: 2 x Creche Christmas Parties, a Gymbaroo Family Picnic, a Gymbaroo Class Party, my Dad’s birthday and John’s Grandmother’s Birthday. I added up the cumulative sugar-hit this would all provide and realised that there is such a thing as too much of a good time. So he was allowed one farewell party for his last-ever Creche session and that was that. Gymbaroo finished this week and the parents swapped phone numbers so we can all meet-up next year for occasional play-times. Relatives received a visit and quick chat rather than an extended party occasion. Touch-wood we are still therefore having a well-paced, enjoyable time at home in the lead-up to Christmas.
