we’ve shuffled our schedules again, and now wednesdays are my day at home with drew. which means drew only has one day of childcare now. one day with the grandparents. two days with eilis. one day with me. some mornings i wake up and have no idea where i’m supposed to be, or what’s going on.
drew has just gone down for her second sleep of the day and i am worried that i’ve strayed so far from the official routine that we’re never going to get it back and the afternoon is going to spiral into chaos, covered in baby snot.
i’m still not very good with negotiating the everyday stuff with drew. i need to plan out everything. getting a coffee from the local cafe this morning required a deliberately thought-through game-plan workshopped with eilis, including some tips from her on wrangling the baby stroller, and then a bit of worrying that once the stroller was in the tiny cafe i was never going to get out. we would be trapped and have to eke out a subsistence on long blacks, babycinos and caramel slice. (that wouldn’t be so bad, really.) but i managed it in the end.
i hope i get better at this stuff.
i also went for my first run this morning, as per my list of things to do this year. my ultimate goal is to be able to run for 30 minutes without stopping. this morning i walked for 1.2km and then tried to run back, but I couldn’t manage it. I had to make do with running and then walking and then running. I’m a little disappointed with myself that I let myself get so unfit - really, 1.2kms is just to the end of the street.
Next week Drew and I are going to trying swimming lessons at the pool in Yarraville. We were due to start today but she is a little under-the-weather, with teething and a cold, poor kid, so we’re holding off until next week. I’ve already started working on my swimming game-plan …

I'd never spent a whole day alone with Finn until I was retrenched when he was just over 2. That's nearly 2 years ago and I'm still getting the hang of the whole day with the kid(s) thing.
Swimming lessons are fun. Leila started last week but we may not make it this week because she's got a cold. You'll love it when you get to go with Drew.

I just think you are all very clever for even having a routine. It only took me 3 years to learn that little lesson.
Off topic a little, but I like the 50 Things Page!
