  The only thing I know about 30 Rock is that someone on the Cultural Gabfest highly recommends it. That’s a good enough reason for me to reserve the copy at the library and splurge $2.20 borrowing it for a week.

  Lesson for the day - for just over two bucks it’s not a big deal if I don’t like something enough to watch it all.

  Crazy Little Thing Called Genius

  On a whim I created a Genius playlist based on Queen’s Crazy Little Thing Called Love. An astonishing number of the songs are ones from The Singing Game. It’s a bit like classic hits radio but doesn’t suck.

  In short, it’s the business.

  Lesson for the day - this simple little feature has made my large and largely neglected music collection come alive.

  The End of Holidays

  Today is the last Thursday of the school holidays and I am feeling pretty rested and remarkably sane. These holidays got off to a pretty rough start but since then things have been going well. We have sorted out all kinds of jobs that needed sorting out and have spend quite a lot of quiet time with each other around the house.

  Lesson for the day - it seems that two weeks is enough to keep your sanity intact (and possibly even improving)

  Here's one for the fact fans. If all the blog posts I have ever made in my various personal blogs were totted up, there would be over two thousand entries.
  
  Today the Internet told me that stress can make you fat. That the chemicals you release when you are really stressed can contribute to gaining extra weight around your middle. And that chronic stress can kill you.
  Sensibly, you'd try and remove the stress. But what if you can't? What if the stress is not something that you can make go away?
  What do you do?
  
  The Internet said you run, meditate, hit things, have regular massages or, lo, keep a journal.
  
  More than two thousand entries later, and I am still alive. Fat, yes, but alive.
  
  God bless the Internet, because I sure as hell hate running.

  I think I must be a visual person. Audio goes in one ear and the grey matter does nothing to stop it going out the other, so I just don’t bother. It’s very salutory to be reminded that there’s great variety in the way people absorb information, though. Thank you.

  Once some training facilitator told me (based which direction I looked when thinking of an answer) that I was an auditory person. I have doubts about the method hear but I do like noises and speech. Happily so do a good number of other people and, even more happily, there are a bunch of podcasts that allow me to just listen to stuff and get a tiny bit smarter.

  Here is what I am listening to these days.

  I don’t necessarily believe everything that I hear but most of it makes me think and that’s got to help. I am not necessarily looking for even more to listen to but if anyone has any recommendations then I am all ears.
