Hello and welcome to the One Minute Mark.
Last night, Nicky’s sister Rhonda came over and looked after Finn and Leila. While they were, it seems, being wonderful, Nicky and I went out for a bite to eat and to see the new Harry Potter flick, The Half-Blood Prince, at the cinema.
I’d read half a dozen reviews of this film, and they ranged from being luke-warm, to dismissive, to outright hostile. I was not expecting all that much. Despite this, I found this to be a confidently directed, interesting and enjoyable film. Visually, it is relatively restrained for a Harry Potter film. This, however, suits this sober story.
The biggest drag on this film is the story itself. At this point in the seven-book story, the individual episodes don’t stand all that well on their own. I appreciate them much better by seeing them as part of the overall arch.
All in all, I really enjoyed this film and was glad that I saw it on the big screen. If you’ve been staying away because of the reviews, I recommend that you risk your seventeen dollars and give it a go. I think you’ll like it, too.
Anyhow, that’s the minute and I’ll speak to you soon.
